The Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) covers all the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families living in the urban areas within the jurisdiction of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). This was stated by Dr. (Ms.) Girija Vyas, Union Minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA), in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
The Minister further stated that the Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation is implementing the scheme of Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) which aims to provide gainful employment to the urban unemployed and under-employed poor, by encouraging setting up of self employment ventures by the urban poor living below the poverty line, skills training and also through providing wage employment by utilizing their labour for construction of socially and economically useful public assets.
The Minister further stated that under the Urban Self Employment Programme (USEP) component of Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY), loan of Rs. 2,00,000/- is permissible for setting up of individual micro-enterprises with 25% central subsidy subject to maximum of Rs. 50,000/-. Under the Urban Women Self-help Programme (UWSP) component of SJSRY for setting up of group micro-enterprises, the group shall be entitled to a subsidy of Rs. 3,00,000/- or 35% of the cost of project or Rs. 60,000/- per Member of the Group, whichever is less, the Minister added.
